In this blog we are going to see the newly planned Capital City of Indonesia, on the Island of Borneo, named "Kalimantan".  Kalimantan was recently announced as the new capital for Indonesia as the Jakarta land was sinking and the city could not hold up the increasing congestion. Indonesia's President said that the move was necessary because the burden on Jakarta was too heavy and relocation was inevitable.  Jakarta had poor urban planning which sited on swamp and unregulated drainage of of aquifer which made the land sink and made almost 50% of the city under sea level. The planned and modern city of Kazakhstan called "Nur Sultan" previously known as "Astana" is first in our list of this series.  Kazakhstan was once a part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (The USSR) and has many cities with Russian architecture and design preserved. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the consequent independence of Kazakhstan, the country got the capital at Akmola. The new idea to shift the Capital to a central place of the nation from Akmola which was capital till 1997 was shifted to Astana now known as Nur-Sultan.
