Rethinking Civil Engineering
Looking back in time Civil Engineering has seen many updates in the methods of surveying, construction, management, software, and view for a better future and sustainable development. But here we are going to rethink some concepts which can be OR should be adopted for the above-mentioned field.

In Civil Engineering we have many scopes to rethink in many sub-sectors such as:

Rethinking Civil Engineering

Surveying:

We have seen growth like structural engineering, where software, geo-mapping, and the newest LIDAR which has changed the way we see this sector, people can do a survey of lands that are covered with forest, or are so remote that cannot be reached. I have done an exclusive blog on LIDAR Technology which you can find here: LIDAR. Another blog for a software called ArcGIS does check it here: ArcGIS.

Transportation Engineering:

Where we have already started using Textile Materials like Geosynthetic material for slope stabilization process but we can also get LIDAR method for surveying, the rectification of potholes, finding the alignment of the road, and create a road profile easily. The transportation sector has also seen machines that complete about 20 km of road in a single day but this can also be increased with precast/prefabricated road segments which can be directly joined on site.

Structural Engineering:

We have many software in this sector which has changed the whole scene. There is software almost a for every problem such as CSI: bridge, etabs, sap and much more, Bently: STAAD, STAAD Pro and many more which deal with water supply system and drainage system which are WateGEMS, Tekla which have BIM and other structure software which have good Interface.BIM is also one of the best software for a one-stop-software. The scope here is creating an open-source application where we can have free and easily available software which can be used anytime anywhere.

I have been researching for such scope in Civil Engineering and have provided you what I have done till now. If you have any such idea, do share here in the comment section.

Great Man-Made River (GMR)

Libya's Great Man Made River: The Great Man-Made River in Libya is one of the most ambitious Civil Engineering Project in history of mankind.  In the year 1953, the Libya Government found out not only vast oil reserves but also vast quantity of fresh water locked under the strata, most of the water was trapped around 7000-30000 years ago which is divided in 4 different basins. The first basin is named Kufra basin which is neat Egypt Border which covers almost 35000 sq kilometer which is quite deep around 2000 m deep. The other basin is in Sirte Basin which cover 10000 sq kilometer, third in Murzuk Basin and the last in Jabal Fezzan Basin covering 4800 sq kilometers area.  The GMR project will be used to transfer water to North of the country to provide water for irrigation purpose for more than 6 million  people. This will be a changing point  for Libya and the Colonel Muammar Gaddafi called it the Eighth Wonder of World. The work started in 1984 of the project and estimated to be
